Description

The White House is a Grade II* listed building located on the west side of Highworth Westrop. It dates from the mid-18th century, with late 17th-century premises at the rear. The structure is two and a half storeys tall, built of red brick featuring blue headers, and has a plaster coved cornice. The roof is made of stone slate and includes two gabled dormers. There are two brick chimneys at the gable ends, which have moulded capping and central breaks in the moulding. The building has four windows on the first floor, which are glazing bar sashes in flush moulded frames, and one window on the ground floor. The door is located off-centre to the left and is a mid-19th-century design with six panels, sheltered by a swept iron hood supported by a slender iron bracket. To the left, there is a segmental-headed coachway with reeded pilasters leading to Jesmond House Yard. At the rear, there is a long extension that tapers off, which includes a pony stable with a loft above and a rounded corner.

Inside, the staircase has been resited and features turned balusters. There is some panelling present, and the ground floor rear room contains a niche cupboard, a lattice cupboard, and an 18th-century door with rising hinges. On the first-floor landing, there is a lead-lined slop basin.
