Description

The building is a former farmhouse, dated 1697, with a later datestone of 1769. It is constructed of rubble walls with red brick quoins and dressings, rendered and colourwashed to the front. The roof is covered with artificial stone slates, and there are three brick chimneys, two with moulded capping. Two gabled dormers are present.

The original building comprised two rooms, entered via a lobby behind the right-hand gable stack, with a stair positioned in front of the stack. The main door was originally centrally located on the front elevation. The house was extended to the right and with two gabled blocks to the rear in the 19th century.

The front elevation has two and a half storeys and two plus one bays. The two left-hand bays feature sashes with glazing bars. The central door has been blocked and replaced with a window; a door is now located to the right of centre. At the right-hand end of the 17th-century block are two small, oak-framed windows with chamfered mullions, formerly lighting the stair. These have two lights to the ground floor and one to the first floor. The right-hand bay has altered casement windows from the early 19th century. There are two gabled extensions to the rear, one of which has a dormer with a lead lattice window.

Inside, the ground floor room on the left has an open fireplace with an ornamented stone fireback dated 1697, which has been reset but is likely original to the house. A bread oven is also present. The building represents an interesting transition from a 17th-century lobby entry to an 18th-century central stair plan, resulting in a symmetrical facade except for the smaller stair windows.
