Description

Arkells Brewery House, dated 1861, is a tall, square, three-storey building with a basement. It features chamfered quoins and a slate hipped roof topped with a belvedere and weathervane. There is a 20th-century brick half bay on the southeast side. The façade has three bays, with a round-headed window that includes intersecting glazing and keystones. The central entrance is an arched door. A large panel replaces the central first-floor window, reading "Kingsdown Steam Brewery 1861." At the rear, there is a short rubble chimney and a lower modern boiler house with a tall attached chimney shaft, dating from 1937. The building connects to a fermenting room to the south, with a rubble base and brick above.
