Description

The Hatch is a building dated 1648, located on Thornbury Castle Street. It has been altered and extended to the south in the late 18th century and to the north-west in the 19th century. The east elevation features a 17th-century section constructed of rubble with a double Roman tiled roof, one storey and an attic with two gabled dormers. There are two windows, which are 2-light casements with ovolo moulded stone mullions, and a glazing bar sash window in the south gable wall. To the right is a 19th-century gabled extension that includes a 2-light plate tracery window. To the left, there is late 18th or early 19th-century rubble with a double Roman tiled roof, two storeys, and three glazing bar sash windows with sixteen panes on the ground floor. The central plank door has an overlight and is set beneath a flat hood on brackets. The rear elevation, which was formerly the front, features two 3-light mullion and transom stone casements, a two-storey porch with a segmental headed door, and a 2-light window with a four-centred arch under a hoodmould with returns. A datestone is located above the porch. Inside, there are ovolo moulded and chamfered beams, and the rear door consists of studded planks.
