Description

Upper Chalkley Farmhouse, Dairy, and Detached Kitchen to the rear is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century, possibly incorporating elements from a 16th-century building. It has been altered in the 19th century and features a rendered exterior with a Cotswold stone slate roof. The building is two storeys high with attics and has a cross-passage plan, which includes a single room (the kitchen) to the left and a hall and parlour to the right.

The farmhouse has three windows, which are a mix of three- and four-light casements, along with one cross window on the first floor (adjacent to a blocked window) and one 16-pane sash window on the ground floor to the right. There is an off-centre six-panel door beneath a 20th-century porch.

Inside, the farmhouse features stop-chamfered beams, one of which has an ogee moulding in the parlour, along with altered large fireplaces. The roof consists of three tie and collar beams with two pairs of tenoned and chamfered purlins.

To the north of the farmhouse is an attached dairy and cheese-loft, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. This structure is made of painted rubble and has a double Roman tiled roof, with two windows (one being a wooden lattice) and a central door on the south elevation.

Additionally, there is a detached kitchen or bakehouse located to the west of the house, which dates from the late 17th century. This building is constructed of rubble with a stone slate and pantile roof, featuring a single square cross window on the east side.
