Description

This is a group of 17 chest tombs located to the south of the south porch of the Church of St Mary the Virgin. They date from the early 18th century to the early 19th century and are made of ashlar with panelled sides. Some tombs feature corner balusters and others have 'lyre ends'. The tombs display various forms of carved decoration, including swags, putti, pilasters, and memento mori. This collection represents a good variety of classical and local tomb styles and significantly enhances the church's setting.
