Description

Church Farmhouse is a house dating back to the 16th century, with alterations and restoration work carried out in the 1980s. It is constructed of rendered and rubble to the north-east wings, and Cotswold stone slate roof, with some replacement at the rear and double Roman tiles to the left. The house has a "L" shape, comprising a north-east wing (originally a malthouse), a cross wing to the south-east, and a wing added in the late 18th or early 19th century.

The north-east wing has three windows and a former door, the cross wing has two windows, and the south-west wing has two windows and a door. Most of the windows are 2- and 3-light casements, and the doors are modern replacements. A single 2-light casement window is in the north of the main wing, featuring a heavily chamfered mullion. Another 3-light casement window, dating from about 1700, is in the cross wing, with scroll-moulded mullions and a decorative catch. The gable end of the cross wing has a projecting stack and two blocked single-light windows with depressed 4-centred heads. The lower of these blocked windows has incised lines above the head, which may be guidelines for the spandrels.

Inside the main wing, there are five chamfered beams with stop-chamfered joists between them. The roof of the main wing consists of four tie-beam trusses with tenoned collars and two pairs of purlins, which were probably formerly windbraced. The cross wing has four tie-and-collar beam trusses with two pairs of purlins and formerly two tiers of curved windbraces, some of which remain.
