Description
The Rockhampton War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1921 by W H Randoll Blacking, with an additional inscription added after the Second World War. It is made of limestone and has a rectangular plan.
The memorial stands on a low stone base and features a monolithic shaft that rises to a stylised Maltese cross in the Arts and Crafts style. The north face of the shaft is inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN HONOURED MEMORY OF:– (NAMES) WHO DIED IN THE GREAT WAR 1914–1918 “THEIR NAME LIV- ETH FOR EVERMORE.” Above the original inscription, the name of a local man who lost his life during the Second World War, along with the dates 1939-1945, is carved.
