Description

A pair of houses on the south side of the High Street in Marshfield, built in the early to mid-18th century. The houses are constructed of ashlar and have a Cotswold stone slate roof with coped raised verges and a moulded eaves cornice. Chimneys are of ashlar construction. The houses are two storeys high, with cellars and attics, and feature three hipped dormers, formerly topped with ball finials. The front is six bays wide, with rusticated end pilasters and a continuous moulded string course above the ground floor. There are 12-pane sash windows with moulded architraves. The front doors are six-panelled; the door at number 119 has a moulded architrave and a pediment supported by brackets, while the door at number 121 features an overlight and a flat stone hood on brackets. A long, two-storey rear wing extends from the rear of number 119, with a slate roof and two casement windows. These windows have two lights, moulded mullions, and surrounds. This wing may have been a former malthouse. The houses are plain examples of provincial baroque architecture.
