Description

  1. 5118 OLDLAND OLDLAND BOTTOM Church of St Anne ST 67 SE 4/212 II GV 2. The mediaeval chapel with its saddle back tower was demolished in 1827, and the present building designed by the Fosters of Bristol. Built 1829-30 of pennant stone rubble with ashlar plinth, quoins, square-corner piers with off-sets at top, coped verges with saddlestones, block stones to eaves. Slate roof. Gargoyle in north-west corner of transept might be reused mediaeval. Three bay nave, one bay transepts with pointed arch doors, one bay chancel with angled sanctuary. Windows include original church-warden "Y" tracery types and later (probably mid C19) decorated style tracery-types. Rose windows to north, south and west. Projection to south-east might represent retention of mediaeval fabric (possibly in this case, roof-stair projection). Later Western porch. Corbelled belfry to west gable. Vestry to north-east. Interior: Tudor arch plaster vault with thin reeded ribs. Fittings, later Victorian and Modern.
