Description
Acton Lodge is a house with origins dating back to the 17th century or earlier, which has been altered and extended over time, and was refaced in the late 18th or early 19th century. The building is constructed of rubble, which was previously roughcast, and features double roman and plain tile roofs with stone dressings.
The south elevation stands at 2½ storeys and includes four windows, all of which are sashes. Some of these windows have gothick tracery set within crude gothick surrounds that feature unmoulded triangular heads. There is a canted bay in the gable to the left.
On the west elevation, there is a two-storey stair tower that has one window at the south. This section is topped with a pavilion roof and includes a gabled porch. To the left, there is a 2½ storey wing with two windows, which features a very large glazed canted bay with French doors below lean-to canopies. Additional windows can be found to the south and behind this bay. The rear of the building presents three gables due to the presence of two more wings behind the left wing.
