Description
The Rookery is a mid-17th century former wayside inn located on Bitton Road in Upton Cheyney. This building is one and a half storeys tall and constructed from lias rubble with a pantile roof. On the north side, there are three windows on the ground floor, which include two 2-light wooden casements and a central ogee moulded stone mullion 2-light casement with a plain drip. Above this, there is a gable featuring a 2-light oak mullion window. The entrance door is positioned to the left of center, and there is a blocked stair light to the right of the door. The south side has a central 3-light stone mullion window with a flat drip, a gabled dormer to the left, and a bread oven projection to the right of center. Additionally, there is a small gable end light to the east with a chamfered lintel. Inside, the building features a newel stair with a blocked window, a cross passage behind the chimney, and two chamfered door frames in the attic, one of which has a cambered head.
