Description

Beech House and Tall Trees are a house, later divided into two houses in multiple occupation, dating from the early to mid-19th century, with 20th-century alterations. The building is constructed of coursed limestone squared rubble with stone dressings. Beech House, on the left side, has a slate and bitumen roof, while Tall Trees has concrete tiles. The asymmetrical design features gables.

Beech House has two-and-a-half storeys and three windows, with a gable end facing the left. The ground and first floors each have a two-light window with six panes in the lower section, a chamfered transom, and ogee heads to all panes at ground level, while the first floor has triangular heads. A similar four-light window is present on the ground and first floors to the right, with a six-light window at ground floor level and a four-light window at first floor level in the gable end. A four-light window with a shaped head is found in the gable. Raised stonework is present under the verges, mirroring the design of The Poplars (listed separately). It has a finial. The left return side has varied 20th-century windows, a small gable with raised coped verges and kneelers, a door inserted into what was a former gable window, and a 20th-century fire escape stair.

Tall Trees, on the right, is two-and-a-half storeys with two windows and includes a 20th-century porch and door. A similar four-light window is to the right. The first floor has a large stair light to the left with stone panels and shields in the centre, with ogee heads to the lower section panes and pointed arched heads in the upper section, including two quatrefoils at the top. A four-light window, with a hood mould, is located to the right, and a small gable mirroring that on the left return is present. The right return has a single-storey 20th-century extension and a four-light window on the first floor to the left. Corbelled external stacks are visible, and a gable end to the right features a first-floor four-light window and a similar second-floor window. Raised stonework is under raised coped verges with kneelers and a finial.

The rear of Beech House has a three-light window, a 20th-century French window with a hood mould, and a string course. The first floor has a six-light mullion and transom window with a hood mould as well as a four-light window to the right. A three-sided bay extends through two-and-a-half storeys; the ground floor features a three-light window with cusped ogee heads, a high continuous hood mould, and similar single lights to each side. The first floor has a six-light window with two-light windows to each side, all beneath a continuous hood mould. A small gable above has ramped side walls rising to the front, and a similar gable window with triangular glazing bars at the top. Raised stonework is present under the verges. The interior was not inspected.
