Description

The boundary wall runs between the Parish Church of St Mary and the Grange, turning southwest for approximately 95 yards along the road frontage to The Dower House. It is possibly of medieval origin and was restored in the 18th and 19th centuries. The wall separates the churchyard from the Grange and associated buildings. It is constructed of rubble and varies in height between 9 and 12 feet, with one section on the southwest reduced to 7 feet. The main section has a setback about 25 yards from the west end and returns at the east end to enclose the garden of The Dower House, extending about 130 yards. Opposite the first bay of the chancel, there is a doorway with a square head and late 17th-century mouldings. To the east of this doorway, on the south side, is a late 19th-century segment-headed summer canopy with cast-iron scrollwork.
