Description
The Dower House has origins dating back to the 16th century, with alterations made in the 17th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from coursed rubble and features quoins, topped with a pantile roof. The building has one and a half storeys and displays three dormer gables on the front. There are three windows with 19th-century stone mullioned casements, and original dripmoulds can be seen above the attic windows. A continuous weathered string runs along the ground floor windows, which have flush relieving arches, a characteristic of the late 17th century. On the left side, there are two dormer gables, along with an extension that includes a doorway and similar window treatment. Inside, there is an early 18th-century staircase at the rear, which was imported from another building and remodeled. This staircase features a carved cut string, turned balusters, a wide handrail, and patched-up panelling below. The ceilings on the first floor are made from the panelled pew ends that were removed from the parish church.
