Description
Bush Farmhouse is a 15th-century farmhouse, or possibly earlier, with alterations dating to the late 16th and early 17th centuries, and the 20th century. The farmhouse is built of rubble and has a thatched roof with overhanging eaves, and prominent rubble stacks. Originally a mediaeval open hall house, it may have started as a longhouse. The house was ceiled in the late 16th century and features a cross passage plan, with a hall and parlour to the left and a kitchen to the right. It is a single storey building with attics in a steep stone gable. There are two windows: 2-light and 3-light 20th-century casements, with exposed timber lintels; one lintel is ovolo moulded above the hall window. A blocked door is located to the left. Internal features include a 20th-century arch-braced truss, double ovolo moulded beams with converging stops, and a chamfered beam in the passage. A winder stair serves the parlour and kitchen. The roof structure comprises three raised crucks with trenched purlins and windbracing over the passage.
