Description

Rangeworthy Court is a house, later adapted for use as a hotel, dating from the early 17th century, with substantial rebuilding and a datestone of 1664. The exterior is of roughcast rubble with plain clay tile roofs, raised and coped verges, and finials. Diagonal chimney stacks are also visible. The building is arranged in an L-shape.

The west-facing elevation has three-and-a-half storeys and four windows. These are casement windows with stone mullions, including ovolo-moulded and king mullions, all set beneath labels. A two-storey gabled porch is centrally positioned and features ovolo-moulded door frames with depressed four-centered arched heads, a studded plank door, and pairs of windows flanking the door, all beneath a single gable. The outer gables have one window each. The south elevation mirrors the west elevation, with three windows arranged under three gables.

The rear elevations exhibit two gables to the north and two to the east, partially obscured by a flat-roofed 20th-century single-storey extension. A gabled stair turret is situated in the re-entrant angle.

The interior features a deep chamfered framed ceiling in a ground-floor room on the right-hand side. Elsewhere, there are ovolo-moulded stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops. The hall and some first-floor rooms have moulded stone fireplaces with lintels matching those of the porch. Decorative plaster overmantel plaques are above the fireplaces in the rooms to the left, and these are repeated on the side walls. A good set of moulded door frames with lintels matching the porch are found at the first floor.
