Description
The Lugger Public House is a public house located on a street corner in Devonport, dating from the early to mid-19th century. It features a stucco exterior on a rubble base and has a dry slate roof that is hipped at the corner. The building has a brick stack on the left side and a stuccoed lateral stack on the front right. It has an L-shaped plan and stands three storeys tall, with a three-window range that includes blind windows on the right side, as well as a two-window range on the right-hand return. The windows are 12-pane horned sashes with glazing bars, likely designed to mimic earlier hornless versions.
The late 19th-century shopfront that wraps around the street corner includes pilasters with consoles, a restored panelled stall riser, and a moulded entablature above the fascia. To the left of the shopfront, there is a 20th-century porch that features a similar stall riser and moulded entablature. Inside, the main bar retains its original tall boarded and grained dado, along with two blocked chimneypieces. The walls are adorned with old embossed wallpaper, and similar wallpaper is used on the ceiling.
