Description

The Drake Statue is a memorial located on the Promenade at Hoe in Plymouth, completed in 1884 by sculptor J.E. Boem. It features a square plan with a stepped base leading up to a vermiculated plinth, which transitions into a polished pink granite chest adorned with a moulded white granite cornice. Atop this chest stands a large bronze statue of Sir Francis Drake, who holds a globe in his right hand and rests his left hand on his sword. Surrounding the statue is a low perimeter fence made of granite plinths with chains connecting turned cast-iron stanchions.
