Description
Island House is an 18th-century house that has been converted from a shop back into a residence. The front is rendered, while the rest of the building is made of stone rubble. It features a steep dry slate roof adorned with late 19th-century crested clay ridge tiles. There are two hipped roof dormers with slate-hung cheeks and terracotta finials. The building has a brick stack at the right end and a lateral stack at the left rear. The layout includes a single-depth plan with an 18th-century rear wing extending at right angles on the right side and a short extension at the rear left. The house stands two storeys plus an attic and has a two-window range. The windows are late 19th or 20th-century four-pane horned sashes, with those on the ground floor inserted into previously infilled shop windows that have a moulded cornice above. The wide central doorway features a recessed entrance with a panelled door to its right. The interior has not been inspected but may still have interesting features.
