Description

Plymbridge Road Bridge is a railway overbridge built around 1848 for the South Devon Railway, with Isambard Kingdom Brunel as the chief engineer. The bridge is made of granite with ashlar dressings. It features a single span that carries Plymbridge Road (B3416) over the railway. The structure is constructed from uncoursed stone rubble and has an elliptical arch made of ashlar voussoirs. There is a projecting string course on both external elevations. The parapet walls, which have been partially rebuilt, are topped with granite copings and end at square piers. The retaining walls at the abutments are intact on all four corners, located trackside.
