Description
Christon Court is a house that may have medieval origins, with elements from the 17th century and mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of rubble, partly rendered, and features a slate roof with ashlar stacks. The building has two storeys and five windows. The central entrance consists of a four-panel door, and the glazing bar sashes are framed by eared plaster surrounds, which are the tidied remnants of removed render. There are pilaster strips at each end, a low parapet topped with ball finials, and a small scrolled pediment that bears arms.
At the rear, there are three gabled ranges that are at right angles to each other, all rendered and altered. Inside, the left first-floor room contains a fine moulded and stopped stone fireplace with an elaborate overmantel. The centre panel features a coat of arms, while the outer two panels depict female allegorical figures, all dated 1672 on shields along the cornice. Two walls in this room and one in the adjacent room are adorned with 17th-century oak panelling. On the ground floor, there is one massive plain chamfered beam and one smaller beam with stops. The south wall facing the terrace is notably thick, measuring up to 1.5 metres in places.
