Description
The White Lion Public House, dating from the early 19th century, features a rendered exterior and a slipped slate roof behind a parapet. The building stands three storeys high with three windows. Shallow three-storey bays flank a central door, which has been converted into a window and is adorned with a moulded architrave. The north wing, which was originally the Tide Mill, is from the 18th century and constructed of rubble with brick dressings, topped with a pantiled roof and a crow-stepped north gable. The west front has blocked segmental-headed windows, while the east front rises to four storeys and features two-light casements, some of which are blocked. A two-storey brick arch runs through the building, marking the location of the former water wheel. At the north end of the west front, there is a section of the former sea wall with an inset millstone. A plaque on the millstone indicates that it was used as a mill until it ceased operation between 1810 and 1815 and was erected on the old sea wall.
