Description

Court House Farmhouse is a late medieval building that was remodeled in the 17th century and again in the 19th century. It is two storeys high and constructed of rubble, featuring a belvedere turret on the southwest corner. The east wing dates from the 15th century and later. The roof is covered with double Roman tiles and the building has an L-shaped plan, with the east section originally being longer.

The south section includes a large stack and an adjoining bread oven, along with a stone mullion window. The east section has mullioned and transomed trefoil-headed windows on both the front and back at the first floor. There is a stair turret with a catslide roof. Inside, the first floor features a fireplace with a depressed four-centred arch, dated 1664, with the initials G C (Katherine Gertrude Chappell) K in the spandrels. There are also blocked doors at either end. On the ground floor, a large stack has been converted into a window.

The west wing, dating from the late 16th or early 17th century, also has a double Roman tiled roof and is two storeys tall. It features three stone mullion windows, two and three-lights, with depressed four-centred arched heads and drip moulds that have lozenge-shaped return stops above. There are two stacks between the windows and a two-storey gabled porch on the right, which has an arched door and a two-light window above. The interior includes nine moulded ceiling beams throughout the block and original fireplaces. To the left of the west wing is a three-stage hexagonal belvedere tower, which is almost detached. This tower is made of rubble with brick quoins and has a freestone moulded cornice.
