Description

Church House is a building that dates back to the 15th century and was originally constructed by the parish of Yatton. It has been documented in churchwardens' accounts since 1446 and has undergone substantial alterations over the years. The structure is made of rubble and is whitewashed, featuring a pantiled roof with raised coped verges and brick ridge and gable stacks.

The building stands two storeys high and has six windows, all of which are 20th-century casements with two and three lights. On the ground floor, there are five similar casements, along with an off-centre brick porch and door from the 20th century. There are blocked former openings to the left and right, and under the position of the ridge stack, there is a blocked doorway with a 4-centred arch and a relieving arch. The building features large quoins and has a blank gable end on the right. The left side has a blocked first-floor opening with a relieving arch and is attached to a single-storey 19th-century rubble building that has trefoils in the gable ends. This attached building has a door with straphinges, a shouldered head, and a relieving arch at the rear, along with rubble battlements and a double Roman tiled roof.

At the rear of Church House, there are six 2-light casements on both the ground and first floors, arranged in pairs, with a central single light on the first floor and a single light located second from the left on the ground floor. To the left, in a corresponding position, are the remains of a stone doorway and a relieving arch. Inside, the ground floor features very heavy deep-chamfered beams, while on the first floor, two curved feet of the principals are visible; the rest of the roof structure was not accessible during the survey.
