Description
The Grey House is a house dating from the mid-18th century. It is constructed of rubble with brick dressings, with a rendered surface on the right return. The roof is slate at the front and pantiled at the rear. The house has two storeys and three windows, all sash windows. The ground floor windows are larger and have brick relieving arches; the first-floor windows have external shutters. A wooden frieze is present above the windows. The central entrance features a panelled and glazed door with a segmental hood over it, incorporating a cast iron trellis with splayed bars in the hood’s tympanum. A curtain wall flanks the entrance, featuring a ball finial and coping that ramps down to a height of approximately 4 metres on either side. A small two-pane window is set into the curtain wall on the left.
To the right return is a single-storey block, set behind the curtain wall, with a two-light casement window to the side and a three-light casement to the rear. A porch with a pitched roof is located to the right, sheltering a plain door with a segmental hood. A single light window is situated at first floor level within this right block, and a two-light casement is found in the attic, to the right of a large external stack in the block to the left. The interior of the house has not been inspected.
