Description
The Manse is a building dating from around 1830, originally serving as a manse for the Congregational chapel. It is constructed of stuccoed stone and features a hipped pantile roof, with brick chimney stacks on either side that have been rebuilt.
The layout is a double-depth plan, with the main rooms located at the front on either side of a central entrance hall that contains the staircase, while service rooms are situated at the back. There is a two-storey addition from the 19th century and a small single-storey extension at the rear.
The exterior is two storeys high and has a symmetrical three-bay façade facing south. It features tall sash windows with 20 and 24 panes, and a central round-headed doorway that includes a large semi-circular fanlight with radiating glazing bars, leading to 20th-century double doors. At the rear, there is a two-storey 19th-century extension on the right with a lean-to roof, along with a small late 20th-century addition on the left.
Inside, there is an open-well staircase with stick balusters and a moulded handrail that ramps up to column newels. The door architraves are moulded, although the doors themselves have been replaced. There are various fireplaces throughout, featuring plain chimneypieces and Victorian grates, including a kitchen fireplace in the rear northeast room and an original moulded chimneypiece and grate in the first-floor southwest room.
