Description
The Old Rectory is a former rectory that has been converted into a detached house. It has a core that dates back to the 17th century, with an addition made around 1710. In the 1950s, the building was reduced in height by one storey. The structure is built of random rubble with dressed stone openings and flush rusticated stone quoins. The roof of the 1710 block is covered with pantiles, while the 17th-century range features triple Roman tiles.
The building has an L-shaped plan, with the 17th-century core on the right and the 1710 block on the left. The north front is two storeys high and has five windows. All windows are 12-pane sashes, with those on the ground floor set under segmental-headed flush relieving arches. The central doorway features a moulded and eared architrave, a bolection frieze, and a broken segmental pediment supported by carved consoles, leading to a six-panel door. There is a moulded plinth course, a first-floor string course, and bracketed eaves beneath the hipped roof. The building has two stone stacks, with an additional stone stack on the 17th-century range.
Inside, there is an early 18th-century staircase with barley sugar balusters and three fine 18th-century chimney pieces located in the Dining Room, Drawing Room, and Library. A Tudor-arched doorway connects the 1710 block and the 17th-century wing, which also features a 17th-century ovolo-moulded opening that was originally an east end window.
