Description
West Lodge is a lodge built in the early 19th century, with alterations and extensions made in 1875. The building is rendered and features double Roman tiles, with plain clay tiles at the eaves and raised coped verges. Originally a four-room cottage, it has been extended to create an irregular and picturesque lodge.
The north-facing roadside elevation has two storeys and two windows. It features a central gabled bay window from 1875, with segmental headed casements on either side. The first floor includes one window set in the wall, which is part of an eaves dormer. To the west, there is a large two-storey gable porch that incorporates reset medieval tracery from St James, Winscombe. The ground floor has a flat-headed doorway with a four-centre arch and a three-light opening with cusped tracery. The first floor has a similar two-light window, and there is a cusped trefoil in the attic. The south elevation has a two-storey section that is part tile-hung, with a timber oriel window centered on the first floor.
