Description

16 High Street is a two and a half storey building constructed in a rendered finish, topped with a Bridgewater tile roof and featuring a brick stack. The structure has an L-shaped plan, with the main range facing High Street and a slight setback to the left, where a further range is positioned.

The exterior showcases a single bay main range with a hipped roof, featuring a six-panel door on the left, which is sheltered by a 20th-century hipped porch. There is a small window on the first floor of the return section. The left range includes a later six-pane window on the first floor and a narrow high-level window on the ground floor, along with a ground floor door to the left beneath a small casement, which is part of the adjoining property, Greenfield House, that is separately listed at Grade II. The building has a dentilled eaves cornice, which was formerly continuous and includes an ogee moulded gutter.

The rear elevation consists of three storeys, with the ground level being lower than the front. It features a single bay range of small pane sashes, and the ground floor has a canted bay window above a sub-ground floor that includes a small four-light window and door. To the right, there is an uneven two-bay arrangement with a replacement lower left window, above a doorway and a 12-pane sash window. Further to the right, the first floor of number 16 projects over a garden wall to Greenfield House, featuring a 12-pane sash window above a ground floor 16-pane casement window and a modern window to the right, which is part of Greenfield House.

Inside, the entrance leads directly into a living room, with a straight flight of stairs positioned across the wall at the rear. A doorway to the left opens onto a landing that leads down to the sub-ground floor, where the kitchen is located at the rear, featuring the canted bay window. To the left, the side range opens into a single room. The first floor contains two rooms at the front and rear, a small WC in the setback area, and an additional two rooms in the side range, which oversails Greenfield House.
