Description
The Lily Pond and two ornamental pedestals with urns, located 20 metres on either side of the pond in the rose garden at Barrow Court, were created around 1890 by F. Inigo Thomas. The pond features rubble stone walls below the water level and ashlar coping. The pedestals and urns are made of ashlar, and there are ironwork railings surrounding the pond. The pond is circular with rectangular projections on the east and west sides, enclosed by tall yew hedges, and aligned with the two pedestals, which are central to two symmetrical rose bed parterres. Each pedestal has two octagonal base steps, a circular shaft, and an ornate urn decorated with floral swags and mermaid handles. These elements are part of a well-designed formal garden layout by Thomas for Henry Martin Gibbs, which is included in the Historic Gardens Register: Part 1 Avon.
