Description

The Old Town War Memorial is a First World War memorial, likely built in the early 1920s and altered after the Second World War. It is made of granite and has a rectangular shape. The memorial features a tapering rough-hewn granite obelisk topped with a wheel-head cross. The north, south, and west faces of the obelisk have granite panels with lead lettering. The north face is inscribed with "1914 – 18/ (NAMES)/ FORGET NOT THEM, O LAND/ FOR WHOM THEY DIED." The south face reads "ROLL OF HONOUR/ 1939-1945/ (NAMES)." The west face states "TO THE HONOUR OF THE/ SONS OF THESE ISLANDS/ WHO SERVED IN THE/ GREAT WARS/ 1914 – 18/ 1939 – 45." Surrounding the memorial is a small paved area that extends to the east.
