Description

Rock Cottage and Rock House comprise two dwellings, originally built in the early 19th century, with an inscription indicating construction in 1822 on the front door lintel. The building was subsequently remodelled and extended in the later 19th century. It is constructed from roughly coursed granite rubble, with a gabled slate roof and brick ridge and end stacks. The original plan consisted of three rooms in a single depth, which was later extended to create a double-depth plan. The two-storey facade has a four-window arrangement. Features include granite lintels above a late 19th-century plank door located to the left of centre and a late 20th-century half-glazed door to the right of centre. Horned 2/2-pane sash windows are present, and a blocked doorway is visible in the right gable end. The rear also features similar sash windows. The interior was remodelled in the mid-20th century. The building is listed as a dated example of Scillonian architecture and for its group value alongside the nearby Methodist Chapel.
