Description
Manor House, formerly known as Moreton Farm House, is a farmhouse built in 1772 by James Frampton, likely incorporating an earlier cottage at the rear. It was enlarged in 1862. The front and side walls are made of Portland Stone, while the rear wall is constructed of brick. The building features a brick dentil cornice at the eaves and a tiled roof with stone eaves courses. There is a separate pitched roof on the possibly earlier section at the rear, and stone stacks, some of which are rendered.
The 19th-century wing on the west has brick walls, a tiled roof, and a brick stack. The house is two storeys high with an attic. The main south elevation has a central part-glazed door set in a later timber glazed porch with a gabled tiled roof. On the ground floor, there are two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, while the first floor has three similar windows. The attic features one dormer with a gabled roof and a casement window. The later section has two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars on both the ground and first floors, with a plat band at first floor level and a matching brick dentil cornice at the eaves.
At the rear of the house, there is a range of single-storey outbuildings, including a game larder, made of brick with a tiled roof. The space between these outbuildings and the house is now roofed in. The interior was altered in the mid-19th century but retains a late 18th-century cut string staircase with a wreathed mahogany handrail, simple square balusters, and spandril brackets.
