Description

The Lower Bagber Farmhouse is a house dating from 1589, with significant alterations in the 1863. It is constructed of coursed rubble, squared dressed rubble, and ashlar, with a slate roof featuring gable ends. Stone stacks are present at the gables and projecting from the front right wall. The house is arranged in a U-shaped plan. The western arm is built of rubble and likely represents the oldest part of the building. A projecting two-story front porch was probably added in the 19th century.

The south facade is two stories and has an attic. It features 2-light and 4-light square-headed stone mullioned windows with hollow chamfers. The ground floor windows on the left have a continuous square returned label that abuts the porch. A projecting stack is located to the right of the porch. Three 19th-century gabled dormers are present in the roof, each containing wooden 2-light, 4-pane casements. The east front has some stone mullioned windows with ovolo-moulded details.

Inside, the west wing retains deep chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, while the east wing features boxed beams. A central newel staircase is positioned to the north. The roof retains heavy trusses with cambered collar beams, now concealed beneath a 19th-century roof structure in both wings. One room in the east wing incorporates 19th-century panelling. The porch includes a reset datestone.
