Description
Padley Hall is a house dating from the mid-17th century, with later additions made in the late 19th century. The building is constructed of ashlar stone with red brick additions, featuring stone dressings and quoins. It has plain tile roofs, a large brick ridge stack that was rebuilt in the 19th century, and an external side wall stack on the left gable. The gables are moulded and coped, topped with ogee ball finials, and the eaves have flush parapets with moulded copings.
The house has a lobby entrance plan, is two storeys tall plus attics, and consists of three bays, all of which are gabled, with the left bay being advanced. There is a plinth at the base. To the right of the central bay, there is an advanced two-storey porch featuring a segment-headed arch and a four-centred arched inner doorcase with an original studded door. The windows on the ground and first floors are recessed, chamfered, and feature mullions and transoms, all with continuous dripmoulds.
To the right of the porch is a four-light window, while to the left there is a two-light window, a four-light window, and a five-light window in the advanced bay. Above these, there is a similar window and three four-light windows to the right, with the window in the porch positioned slightly higher, causing the dripmould to step up over it. The porch has flush parapets adorned with numerous finials, while the other bays contain three-light recessed and chamfered mullion windows with dripmoulds in the gables.
The right gable wall features five-light recessed and chamfered mullioned and transomed windows with continuous dripmoulds on both the ground and first floors, along with a three-light mullioned window with a dripmould above in the gable. The rear elevation includes red brick additions. The interior has been largely remodelled, with a renewed staircase, but retains chamfered ceiling beams in most rooms.
