Description
Higher Farm House, also known as Old Parsonage, is a detached farmhouse dating from the late 17th century. The building features brick walls laid in English bond, with two stretcher courses to one of the headers, while Flemish bond is present at the southeast corner. The west and north walls are constructed of banded brick and flint up to the first floor. The brick sections have plinths at the base, plat bands at the first floor level, and coved plaster cornices at the eaves. The roof is covered with clay tiles and stone slates in the lower courses, hipped at every corner except for the west end of the south range, which has a gabled roof topped with a large brick stack.
The farmhouse has a half H plan and the south elevation consists of two storeys and attics. It features five windows on the ground floor, including a left-side three-light 20th-century casement, another three-light casement with lead lights, a porch, a third three-light wood casement with lead lights, and a segmental arch above. On the first floor, there is a three-light 20th-century casement with lead lights, a blocked sash window with a wood lintel above, and a shallow round-headed recess in the eastern part of the south front, outlined in stretcher bricks and adorned with brick imposts and a brick keystone. The recess has a rendered wall inside and a three-light casement with a lintel above. There are also two gabled 20th-century dormers in the roof space. The gabled brick porch features an elliptical archway and a clay tile roof, and inside, there is a six-fielded panel door. No notable features are visible internally.
