Description

Hardye's School Craft Centre is a building from 1910, featuring a rendered exterior and a hipped slate roof with brick stacks. It is two storeys high. The right side of the building has two ranges of sash windows with glazing bars and horizontally rusticated quoins. The windows have continuous moulded sills, and there is a continuous stringcourse at the impost level of the ground floor. The ground floor windows are surrounded by rusticated surrounds and aprons, while the first-floor windows feature scrolled architraves and unique dentilled cornices that curve slightly upwards to triple keystones. There are three blank cartouches situated between the stringcourse and the first-floor sill level.

The left side of the building is set back in a concave channeled recess, flanked by two slightly tapering pilasters with festoons at the top, leading to a shaped gable with coping and a finial. The ground floor has double doors flanked by Ionic three-quarter columns supporting a plain frieze and cornice, all within a segmental arch that includes dentils, a moulded extrados with scrolls and a festoon below, and a triple keystone above, with enriched spandrels. The first floor features a four-light window on a sill that spans from one buttress to another, divided by three Ionic columns with Tuscan responds, supporting an oversized entablature that has "Girls' School" inscribed on the frieze. The gable displays a cartouche with the dates "1850-1910."
