Description
The footbridge, built around 1910, was designed by Francis Inigo Thomas for Francis Savile as part of the gardens at Chantmarle. It is made of concrete and features Ham stone balustrades and parapets.
This bridge is an important part of the north-south axis that runs through the formal gardens at Chantmarle. The axis extends from the avenue north of the entrance gates, through the gates and forecourt, across the south garden, and leads to this bridge, which spans a stream with a rock garden and cascade to the east.
The bridge is a single-span arched structure with stone balustraded parapets. It has piers at the center, flanked by sections of balustrading, and additional piers at each end, all topped with continuous stone copings.
