Description
West House is a house located in Piddletrenchide, with the west range likely dating from the 17th century and the south range from the 18th century. The building is constructed from banded flint and rubble, along with brick in Flemish bond. It features a tiled roof with gabled and half-hipped ends, and has various brick stacks. The house has two storeys and a south facade that consists of five bays. The windows are sashes with glazing bars set under gauged brick heads, except for the east end of the ground floor, which has two-light, square-headed stone windows. The north end of the west range includes a two-storey bow window. There is an early 19th-century doorway with a pedimented hood. Inside, the house features late 18th-century stairs with panelled pine dadoes, woulded handrails, newel-posts with clustered shafts, and geometric trellis instead of balusters.
