Description

Nos. 22 and 23 are 17th-century houses that were originally one dwelling but were enlarged and divided into two houses in the 18th century. No. 22 features stone walls that are plastered, a thatched roof, and brick stacks. It has one storey and an attic, along with a two-storey rear wing of similar construction and a single-storey rear lean-to with a slate roof. The entrance door is ledged with a glass panel. The ground floor includes three casement windows with glazing bars, while the attic has two dormers with similar casements. Inside, one ground floor room boasts a large open fireplace with a timber lintel and a chamfered ceiling beam.

No. 23 also has stone walls, a thatched roof, and a brick stack. It is one storey with attics and has a single-storey slate-roofed extension at the rear. The entrance door is similarly ledged with a glass panel. The ground floor features two casement windows with glazing bars, and the attic has one dormer with similar casements, along with a modern dormer extension on the rear roof slope. Internally, the main ground floor room contains a large open fireplace with a partially built-up bread oven. The roof is of jointed cruck construction, with a cruck post at the doorway, and evidence of face pegs suggests that it originally had an open hall.
