Description

This is a mid-19th century milestone located on the south side of the A31, northeast of Bere Regis. It was erected for the Puddletown and Wimborne Turnpike Trust, which operated from 1840 to 1873. The milestone has a rectangular shape with a rounded top and features black painted lettering that reads 'Dorchester 12, Wimborne 10'. There are three screw holes on the front, indicating that a cast iron plaque was once attached, likely added in the late 19th century, but this plaque has since been lost. The original lettering remains visible underneath.
