Description

42 and 44 Easton Street are two houses built in the early 18th century, with No 44 being raised in height in the late 19th century. They are constructed from good squared and dressed stone with a slate roof. No 42 features a central-entry plan with two units and is lower than the neighboring houses, having a steeper roof pitch. The front of No 42 is two storeys high with two windows. On the first floor, there are two paired 4-pane sash windows with wood mullions, above which is a larger 4-pane window on the left and a smaller one on the right, all positioned towards the right side of the facade. Near the center is a plank door in a plain opening. There is a stone stack on the left and remnants of a good stone stack with capping built into the adjoining property on the right. A wing extends to the back with a pent roof. The scale and layout of No 42 suggest it may be one of the earliest buildings on this street. No 44 is three storeys high with one window. It has a gabled porch on the right side and mid-20th century windows, with the first-floor window featuring a chamfered design that suggests it was once a mullioned window. The upper storey has two plate-glass sash windows from the late 19th century, and the right end stack is rendered. The interiors have not been inspected but are likely to be of interest.
