Description

The building at 43-45 Coombe Street appears to have a core dating from the 16th to 17th centuries, with a later front. It is a three-storey structure. The walls are of blue lias rubble, rendered and colour-washed. The section to the left has a slightly higher frontage than the section to the right. The roof is slate and hipped. The upper floors have sash windows with five panes per sash. On the ground floor, from left to right, there is a plain modern door, a half-glazed door, and a shop window with four lights arranged over two tiers. The right-hand section has a slightly lower frontage and is of three bays, with the bay at the east end set back. It has a slate gabled roof and 2-light wooden casements with a central 3-light window on the first floor. The ground floor features two small, plain shop windows with a doorway at either end; these doorways have ledged doors with glazed panels in the upper part. The building forms a group with numbers 42-45 and 47 Coombe Street, the Guildhall, numbers 4, 4A, 5 & 6 Bridge Street, and number 62 Church Street.
