Description
Powerstock School, originally listed simply as School, is a primary school built in 1848, incorporating materials from the early 16th century. The building features dressed stone walls with a chamfered stone plinth and a plain tile roof, which includes some fish-scale tiles and tile cresting. The gable copings and apex block are made of stone, and there is a stone bell-cote at the west gable that houses a bell.
The school is a single-storey structure with approximately four windows. The side windows are single lancets with chamfered edges. Both gable ends have three stepped and chamfered lancets, each with a relieving arch above. On the east end of the south wall, there is a two-light window from around 1500, which is trefoil-cusped in a square head, featuring returned labels and likely original head-stops.
At the center of the south wall, there is a stone porch dating from around 1500, which has moulded jambs with one respond above, and capitals that are adorned with carved faces, topped by a pointed arch.
