Description
Elm Grove is a building likely originating in the 18th century, with later enlargements and alterations made in the 19th century. It features plastered walls, slate roofs, and brick stacks. The original structure is a two-storey hair block with a rectangular double-pile plan and a central entrance. A later rear extension contains kitchens and other facilities.
The main (east) elevation showcases a part-glazed panelled door framed by a classical surround, complete with a flat hood supported by brackets and reeded pilasters. The ground floor has two double-hung sash windows with glazing bars, while the first floor features three similar windows. On the side (south) elevation, there is a canted bay window on the ground floor, also with double-hung sashes and glazing bars, topped with a moulded cornice. Above the bay window is another double-hung sash window with glazing bars, and the other windows on this elevation are casements.
Inside, the staircase is notable for its square balusters and wreathed handrails, which likely date from the 19th century.
