Description

Greenhill House, located on the south side of The Green, dates back to 1625 and appears to incorporate three older houses, with the two facing the road being from the 17th century and a back wing being even older. The right side of the road frontage features a well-preserved mid-17th century stone rubble front that is two stories tall with an attic. Flanking the doorway are three-story bays that are splayed on the two lower floors, corbelled out squarely at the second floor, and topped with gables. There is a gabled half-dormer situated between the bays. The building has a stone slate roof and painted stone mullioned windows. The stone doorway has a raked head that creates the appearance of a four-centred arch, with moulded and chamfered stone jambs and head, and an original nail-studded door. To the left is No 6, which has a two-story, four-window coursed rubble front, likely from the later 17th century. This section also features stone mullioned windows, with alterations made to the ground floor, and a pedimented hood from the 18th century on splayed brackets above the doorway. The stone slate roof continues here as well. Inside, there are features and a fireplace from the 17th century. The listed buildings on the south side of The Green form a group with No 2, The White Hart Public House, on Cheap Street.
