Description

The ruins of a former manor house, originating from the 13th century, are located in Witchampton. The structure features flint and rubble walls with ashlar dressings and some brick patching. Only the front wall and fragments of the side and rear walls remain. The manor was originally two storeys high, with a solar on the left and a hall on the right, both situated at first floor level above undercrofts. There is a large archway to the right of the center, which has a brick segmental arch and brick patching above it. The ruins include one original and two added buttresses. On the first floor of the hall, there are remains of two lancet windows, and a larger window remains in the solar. In the hall undercroft, there is one rectangular window opening. At the rear of the solar block, a small section of wall stands, with remnants of a window at the upper level. The site is in poor repair and is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument. The Pigeon House, mentioned in the original listing, has been demolished.
