Description

Poplar Farmhouse is a building of possible 16th-century origin, with significant alterations in the 18th and 19th centuries, and again in the 20th century. It is constructed from rubble, brick in both Flemish bond and stretcher bond patterns, and timber frame. The roof is thatched, with half-hipped sections and gable ends. A stack is positioned a quarter of the way in from the north-east gable. The farmhouse includes a gabled cross-wing and is a single-storey building with an attic. Windows are 20th-century casements with glazing bars. Some gable ends feature exposed timber framing, and a 20th-century porch is present. The south-east gable is likely a rebuild from the 18th century, intended to create the impression of a double-pile plan. The farmhouse is said to have been re-roofed in the 20th century.
