Description
Stone Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the late 16th century, with an extension added to the west in the mid 17th century. It features dressed stone walls and a thatched roof with gable ends. There is a stone stack at the left gable end and a brick stack at the right gable end. The cottage is two storeys high and has four windows, originally three. The windows on the lower floor have diagonal fenestration with three light hollow chamfered stone mullions, while the upper floor has three light wood casements with glazing bars and wood cills from the 19th and 20th centuries. The 17th-century extension to the west includes two light ovolo moulded stone mullions. The front door, originally at the centre but now positioned to the right of centre, is a flush panelled and glazed door from the 20th century. There is a stone porch with a gabled stone slab roof, stone gable coping, and an entrance with a four-centred head. A short rear range was added in the mid 17th century, which is thatched and has one window with three light iron casements featuring lead lights on the upper floor. A later brick extension from the 19th century is noted as not being of special interest. Inside, there is a muntin-and-plank partition.
